Jack Reacher Opening Sequence

At the beginning of the title sequence in Title 1, the high pitched music instantly creates tension and it gets more dramatic as the sequence expands. The high speed that the car is travelling in and the dramatic music link together to create an instant thriller scene. In Title 5, the close up of the outline of the character intrigues the audience as the character is a dark silhouette. In Title 6, the sharpening of the bullet and the quick change of darkness sets the feeling of danger and anxiety and instantly puts the audience on edge. In Title 7, the screen shot floats over a city scape which is unusual as normally violence wouldn't be categorised in such an innocent place which creates extra tension. In Title 11, the close shot of the character allows us into a deeper insight of the character as it is seen wearing white gloves. White gloves is normally associated with a clean death which could convey that innocent people are about to die without any evidence being left behind. In Title 14, there is a shot of a CCTV camera. This gives another clue of the character as it implies that even under the watchful eye of security, the character is a skilled assassin and is determined to finish his job. This sums up the idea to the audience that something is going to happen. Leading on from that Title, the speed of the music increases as does the speed of the car which implies that the message of the opening sequence is about to be unveiled which creates extra tension for the viewer. The white cloth that the mystery character closes himself behind creates mystery and conspiracy as the character is trying to do the job without causing too much disruption. Towards the end of Title 14, the character peers through an eye scope as he is looking for his target. However there is a long build up which creates suspense as the target hovers over numerous characters. When the character hits his targets, there is diagetic noise as the sound of the bullet is heard when the targets are hit. In the final title, Title 20, the over sound is a sound of a pulse which creates confusion as the viewer is unaware of who's heartbeat it is. The title sequence creates suspense and meaning for the audience as it gives a clear implication of what the film could be about. Its tension and mystery intrigues the audience and encourages them to carry on watching the rest of the film.
